Oyub Titiev's advocates tell about obstacles for his defence at trial

The prosecution has supported the version of the mass failure of video surveillance cameras on the day of Oyub Titiev's detention; and the court refused to examine these cameras. The court rejects all the defence's petitions and fails to provide evidence in Titiev's favour, said Pyotr Zaikin, an advocate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 21, the defence stated that the main proofs in the case are unreliable, in particular, the examination of the cannabis, allegedly found on Titiev, failed to prove the narcotic properties thereof.

Today, the court has rejected two defence's motions: to add the experts' opinion on examination of the cannabis to the case files, and to interrogate the owners of shops and pharmacies who had reported the failure of their surveillance cameras on the day of Titiev's detention.

The statement that the video cameras of 13-14 facilities – pharmacies, shops and administrative buildings – all were inoperative right on the day of Oyub's detention, causes great doubts in the defence, the advocate has explained. According to his version, law enforcers in Chechnya are well equipped with technical means, and the statement of the Prosecutor's Office is not credible.

Oyub Titiev has also noted that no one tried to establish the cause of the mass failure of the cameras.

The court rejects virtually all the defence's motions, and this seriously prevents advocates from proving Titiev's innocence, Mr Zaikin has concluded.
