Armenian Prosecutor's Office reports about 63 casualties in 2018

In 2018, 38 soldiers of the Armed Forces of Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Defence Army were killed in the line of duty, and other 25 casualties were not related to the military service, the General Prosecutor's Office of Armenia has reported today.

According to the General Prosecutor's Office of Armenia, in 2018, 11 officers, 2 warrant officers, 27 regular soldiers, and 23 contract soldiers of the Armed Forces of Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Defence Army were killed, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported.

Out of 63 casualties, 38 were directly related to the military service. In particular, seven soldiers were killed as a result of the violation of the ceasefire with Azerbaijan. Careless handling of weapons led to two deaths, other two persons deceased as a result of violation of the combat duty rules, and two more because of violation of the flight rules. One soldier was blown up on a mine. Three persons deceased because of sicknesses, and other three as a result of accidents. Six were killed in road traffic accident, and one was shot dead. According to the Prosecutor's Office, eleven soldiers were driven to suicide.

The Prosecutor's Office reports that the circumstances of 25 deaths were not related to the military service. Of the above, 11 casualties resulted from road traffic accidents not related to the military service, ten persons deceased because of sicknesses, and other four as a result of accidents.
