Azerbaijani oppositionist sentenced to 5.5 months in jail

A court in Baku has found Mamed Ibragim, an advisor to the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), guilty of keeping a knife in his colony cell. The oppositionist has treated the verdict as a political order.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 29, 2018, Mamed Ibragim, who had served three years in prison, was supposed to get at large, but was arrested for two months for keeping a knife.

Mamed Ibragim was detained on September 30, 2015, on charges of beating a man; and in March 2016, the court sentenced him to three years in prison. He has been put on the list of Azerbaijani political prisoners, compiled in 2018.

"My father said that he doesn't hold back on those involved in the falsification of the new criminal case against him. According to his version, they were forced to participate in this case because they are victims of the political system," Turan Ibragim, Mamed's son, has stated.

The court has sentenced Mamed Ibragim to 5 months and 22 days in prison.
