South Ossetia decides to close the border with Georgia on the New Year

The border with Georgia will be closed from December 30 to January 2 due to the increased security measures during the New Year holidays, the South Ossetian KGB (Committee for State Security) has announced.

The passage of citizens at the simplified border crossing points with Georgia will be stopped at 8:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. Moscow time) on December 30, the press service of the South-Ossetian KGB has reported.

"The operation of the checkpoints will resume at 6:00 a.m. [5:00 a.m. Moscow time] on January 2, 2019 in the usual mode," says the KGB's page on the Facebook.

Let us note here that South Ossetia often announces the closure of the border with Georgia for several days. The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 27-29, the border was closed because of the election of the President of Georgia; and on May 25-27, due to enhanced security measures during school graduation parties.
