European Ingushes demand to release fellow countrymen detained in Egypt

Members of the Ingush Diaspora have held actions in Vienna, Stockholm and Paris, demanding to find and release the Ingush students detained in August in Cairo.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 7, it became known that five students from Ingushetia were detained in Egypt. Their whereabouts are unknown since August. On December 5, relatives of the missing young people asked the Egyptian Embassy for help in finding young people and complained about the inaction of Russian diplomats. According to relatives, the detainees are kept in concrete cells without sufficient food.

According to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the detention of Russian citizens in Egypt has to do with a violation of the local immigration legislation.

Pickets at the Egyptian Embassies in the above three European capitals were organized by members of the "Bart-Marsho" Association, Djannat Dugieva, one of the relatives of the missing students, has reported.

The action in Paris was about 20 persons strong. According to Ms Dugieva, many passersby showed interest and were surprised that Russian authorities fail to pay attention to the problem.

In Stockholm, about 30 people took part in a similar action and pointed to the inaction of Russian and Egyptian authorities.

Ms Dugieva has expressed hope that the pickets will attract attention of diplomats, and the missing young people will be found.

Mariem Chemurzieva, the mother of one of the missing students, fears that the young people have perished, since there has been no new information about their fate.
