Gasanguseinov suspends protest after Putin's promise

After Vladimir Putin's statement that the murder case of Gasanguseinov brothers will be under special control, their father decided to suspend his protest actions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 20, Murtazali Gasanguseinov, the father of the murdered shepherds, went out on a picket in Makhachkala, demanding from the authorities to investigate the murder of his sons and allow holding a rally against the law enforcers' arbitrariness. Mr Putin promised to "give necessary attention" to the murder case of Gasanguseinov brothers, when responding to a question of a Dagestan journalist during the today's press conference in Moscow.

On August 23, 2016, the 17-year-old and 19-year-old sons of Murtazali Gasanguseinov from the village of Goor-Khindakh were killed in the Shamil District. Law enforcers declared that the brothers were militants; however, the brothers' fellow villagers insisted that they had nothing to do with militants.

Stating the suspension of his protests, Murtazali Gasanguseinov has noted that he will wait a bit, and should the inquiry into his sons' murder not change, he will continue picketing and seeking a permit to hold a rally.

"I haven't watched the today's press conference live; instead I was standing under rain in the central square of Makhachkala trying to attract attention to my problem and to seek a permit for holding a rally. Once our problem was brought to Putin, now I have hope that there will be some fruit, and those guilty of killing my sons will be punished," Murtazali Gasanguseinov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
