Khadidja Ismailova tells about arrest of another account
The Azerbaijani journalist Khadidja Ismailova said that she received information about the preparation of her arrest from several sources. The bank blocked her account, to which the compensation established by the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) was transferred; and she noticed spying on herself.
Journalist Khadija Ismayilova became well-known for her journalistic investigations of corruption in Azerbaijan. In September 2015, she was sentenced to 7.5 years of imprisonment on the charges of economic crimes. In May 2016, the Supreme Court (SC) replaced her real term of imprisonment with 3.5 years of conditional sentence with a probation period of five years.
On December 18, Ismailova wrote about her suspicion of the preparation of a new criminal case against her on her Facebook page.
"Over the past two weeks, I received several warnings from various sources ... They asked me to be careful," she wrote (the translation made by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent).
In her message, Ismailova stressed that there are no grounds to persecute her.
“I do nothing illegal; and these warnings mean that they are trying to frame me," she has noted.
"Mass media wrote that I received a grant of half a million ... this is an absolute lie," she says in her message.
Over the past two weeks, Ismailova received information from three different sources about preparations for her arrest, the journalist herself told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, without disclosing the sources.
According to her story, then information appeared about the blocking of another bank account. Ms Ismailova has also noticed an increased "attention" to the people in her encirclement and her shadowing. "Apparently, the grounds are really being prepared for my arrest," Khadidja Ismailova has concluded.
