Defence of resident of Adygea treats his shooting at wedding as tribute to traditions

Ruslan Beretar, a resident of Adygea, suspected of hooliganism after shooting from a car of the wedding cortege, has committed no crime, but followed traditions, his advocate has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that shooting into the air by the participants of the wedding cortege was conducted on October 13 in the village of Yablonovsky, Takhtamukai District of Adygea. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), a 34-year-old resident of the republic opened fire.

The video clip about shooting in Yablonovsky triggered a dispute among social network users about the traditions of Caucasian nations and security issues in public places.

The shooter faces up to five years in prison; however, his advocate, Zaur Tatlok, believes that there are no signs of a crime in Beretar's actions.

"He followed the traditions respected by Adygs; Ruslan knew from his childhood that shooting is used to attract attention to the arrival of the bride. This is a part of cultural traditions," The "Kavkaz.Reialii" quotes the advocate as saying.

The ritual of shooting at a Caucasian wedding was treated as "a talisman against the evil eye", but it has long been an element of fun and courage, experts on the Caucasus told earlier.
