Russian soldier arrested on suspicion of killing Gyumri woman

The court has ruled to place a serviceman of the 102nd Russian military base in Gyumri, suspected of killing a local woman, into custody.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the 57-year-old Djulietta Gukasyan was beaten up on December 3 and died in hospital. Local residents demanded to tighten control over Russian soldiers.

In 1999-2015, at least 11 Gyumri residents perished in incidents involving Russian militaries. The greatest resonance was caused by the massacre of the Avetisyan family on January 12, 2015. Valery Permyakov, a former serviceman of the above military base, was found guilty of killing seven members and sentenced to life imprisonment.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
