Relatives of Circassian activist claim his illegal detention
Oleg Umarov, the head of the "Dobro Cherkesov" (Circassians' Wealth) Charitable Foundation, was detained by law enforcers in Kabardino-Balkaria. His relatives have stated that Oleg is sick with diabetes, and complained about his health problems after detention.
According to his relatives, law enforcers are trying to fabricate a criminal case against Oleg. "At night on December 7, at about three o'clock in the morning, masked [law enforcers] broke into Oleg Umarov's house in Kabardino-Balkaria. At that moment, his wife was there; and Oleg was detained earlier, at about 11:00 p.m., when he went out of the cafe," his relative told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
He has added that Oleg Umarov is sick with diabetes; he takes medications; and during detention, he felt very bad. "Oleg is a very decent person; his foundation exists for about a year, helping low-income families," the man has explained.
The advocate Soslan Boriev has not yet seen any official documents about the initiation of criminal case against Oleg Umarov. According to his information, Umarov is still kept in one of the units of power structures.
