Supporters of Ingush activists accused of disobeying police

All activists, detained in Saint Petersburg during solo pickets held to support opponents of the agreement on the border between Ingushetia and Chechnya, have been released. Two of them are accused of rendering resistance to the police.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 26, on the eve of a session of the Constitutional Court of Russia in Saint Petersburg, at least nine participants of the pickets in support of the protesting Ingush residents were detained.

The decision of the Constitutional Court will be pronounced behind closed doors, reports Court Chair Valery Zorkin. On the same day, opponents of the border agreement held a rally in Nazran. They also demanded the resignation of Ingush leader Yunus-Bek Evkurov and the dissolution of the republic's parliament.

The activists feared that Roman Samoilov, one of the detainees, could face criminal proceedings, since during the detention, one of the law enforcers got his shoulder dislocated, noted rights defender Dinar Idrisov.

"However, after examining video records, the police decided that their employee was injured because of his clumsy actions and not because of the activist's fault," Dinar Idrisov said.

According to him, the action was initiated by the civil movement "Petersburg Solidarity".

Roman Samoilov has explained that he decided to support residents of Ingushetia, since he believes that "the opinion of the people is above the interests of the authorities."

Let us remind you that on November 27, law enforcers detained Olga Smirnova, who was holding a picket near the building of the Russian Constitutional Court, and Ilya Tkachenko, who was filming the action on video. Several hours later they were released.
