Chechen authorities declare law on border with Ingushetia in force

The republican law to approve the agreement on the border with Ingushetia has entered into force in Chechnya. This has been reported today by the Chechen parliament.

On October 4, the leader of Chechnya signed a law to establish a new border with Ingushetia.

The statement on the Chechen law entering into force was made on the day when members of the delegation representing the opponents of the agreement on the border between Ingushetia and Chechnya met Alexander Matovnikov, the plenipotentiary envoy of the Russian President in Northern Caucasus, in Pyatigorsk.

The statement voiced by the Ingush authorities on the "equal exchange of territories" with Chechnya does not correspond to reality, indicate experts in the cartography, who studied the new line of the Chechen-Ingush border at the request of the "Caucasian Knot". According to the experts, the territories handed over to Chechnya are 26 times larger than those got by Ingushetia.

Earlier, on September 26, after Ramzan Kadyrov and Yunus-Bek Evkurov signed the border agreement, Alexander Matovnikov, the plenipotentiary envoy of the Russian President in Northern Caucasus, explained that the border between the republics should be approved by the Federation Council, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

Let us remind you that starting from October 4, the capital of Ingushetia hosts the protest action against the establishment of the new border with Chechnya. The protestors demand to hold a referendum on the border issue.
