Khabib Nurmagomedov's father threatens to severely punish his son

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, the father and coach of the Russian fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov, has expressed hope that the incident with a brawl after his son's victory over Conor McGregor will end up with a fine, which usually amounts to 30% of the winner's fee. The disciplinary commission should decide on Khabib's punishment, while "very much will depend on the head of the UFC Deina White," said Nurmagomedov Senior.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 7, at the UFC 229 tournament in Las Vegas, the Dagestani fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated the Irishman Conor McGregor in four rounds and maintained his champion's belt in lightweight category. Immediately after the fight, Nurmagomedov, who jumped out of the octagon, provoked a fight among fans; therefore, the champion's belt was not awarded to him.

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov has stressed that he condemns his son's behaviour after the fight and will talk to Khabib when he returns to Dagestan. The father made it clear that his son would be severely punished for breaching the principles of his mentor.

At the same time, the father-coach believes that the referee of the fight was wrong in relation to Khabib – he should have shown a yellow card to Conor McGregor after he inflicted three elbow blows in the back of his son's head.

"He should have shown a yellow card, which was not done. The referee should have done it regardless of the fighter," the TASS quotes Nurmagomedov Senior as saying today.

According to the father, the brawl after the fight was instigated by the insults pronounced by members of McGregor's coaching staff and addressed to Khabib.
