Ramzan Kadyrov demands to clarify Chechnya's borders

The State Commission on definition and clarification of the administrative borders of Chechnya must prepare documents for resolving disputes over the precise location of republic's borders, says a decree signed by Ramzan Kadyrov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in August, the NGO "Ingushetia's Pillar" reported on the construction works performed in Ingushetia under protection of Chechen law enforcers. According to activists, works are conducted in the Sunzha District near the border with Chechnya.

By September 5, workers from Chechnya had advanced several kilometres into Ingushetia, but the authorities of this republic left these actions without public reaction.

In January 2013, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, signed a law on the transfer of a number of dwelling settlements of the Sunzha District of Ingushetia under the jurisdiction of Chechnya. In April, in the village of Arshty, there were clashes of Ingush and Chechen law enforcers, in which six Ingush policemen were wounded.

By his decree, Kadyrov liquidated the commission "on considering border issues with Ingushetia".

Disputes of Chechnya with Ingushetia regarding the jurisdiction of the Sunzha and Malgobek Districts date back to mid-1990s. The border of 1934 is officially considered the border between the republics, but its demarcation has not yet been carried out due to territorial disputes.
