Dagestan: Afghan War veterans demand to provide them with housing

25 veterans of the war in Afghanistan have gathered in central Makhachkala, stating that they had been waiting for housing from the state for 20 years. They threatened to go on an endless hunger strike.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2008, Dagestani veterans of the Afghan War held a hunger strike, during which one of the protesters died. In December 2010, veterans held a picket, stating that they had not received any housing.

Their appeals to all instances gave no fruit, the protesters said.

This time, Abdulmutalib Gamzatov, a member of the Dagestani Council of Elders, came out to them and urged them to appoint delegates to draw up an appeal to the republic's leadership, the "Chernovik" weekly writes.

According to the veterans, they have accepted the proposal.
