Rebels kill five
A group of rebels carried out an armed attack on the house of Shamkhan Beksultanov, head of administration in Roshni-Chu, Urus-Martan district, at about 0.10 am last night. The rebels captured one of Shamkhan's sons, while another began to shoot at them and killed one rebel. The rebels burnt down the house.
They also detonated a powerful bomb on the way of an armoured vehicle with servicemen from the Urus-Martan district military commandant's office and Zapad ("West") battalion who were going to help the Beksultanovs. After that, they fired grenade launchers and automatic weapons at the vehicle. As a result, military commandant Colonel Alexander Kayak and another four servicemen, including from the Zapad battalion, were killed. Two military men were wounded in the attack, a source with Chechnya's law enforcement agencies told Caucasian Knot.
