Yusup Temirkhanov buried in Chechnya

On August 4, the funeral of Yusup Temirkhanov, who died in the colony after being convicted for killing the serviceman Yuri Budanov, was attended by the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov. He declared Temirkhanov innocent of assassinating the officer.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 3, the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (known as the FSIN) reported that Yusup Temirkhanov, who had been serving his term in an Omsk colony for killing Yuri Budanov, died in the hospital.

In July 2003, Yuri Budanov, a Russian military serviceman, was found guilty of abducting and murdering Elza Kungaeva, an 18-year-old Chechen girl. Budanov was released in January 2009, having not served his sentenced ten-year term. On June 10, 2011, he was shot dead, and on May 7, 2013, the Moscow City Court found Yusup Temirkhanov guilty of killing Budanov and sentenced him to 15 years of a high security colony.

Yusup Temirkhanov, 48, was buried today into the cemetery of his clan village of Geldagan, one of his relatives has reported.

The funeral was attended by the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, who expressed his condolence to Yusup's relatives and stated that he was innocent.

"There is strong evidence that Temirkhanov was not involved in Budanov's assassination; we consider him a victim; and we'll seek justice. He was illegally convicted, imprisoned, and he died his death at the will of the Divinity," the "Novaya Gazeta" quotes Kadyrov as saying to reporters.
