Ramzan Kadyrov's nephew approved as Mayor of Grozny

On July 26, members of the Grozny City Duma approved to the post of City Mayor Ibragim Zakriev, a nephew of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 25, the Parliament of Chechnya approved Muslim Khuchiev to the post of the new Prime Minister. Earlier, he had been the Mayor of Grozny. Ibragim Zakriev, a 28-year-old nephew of the Chechen leader, who served as the First Vice Prime Minister of the Chechen government, was appointed the acting Mayor of Grozny. Ibragim Zakriev demanded to put the city streets in order. Public sector employees complained about being sent to work in the streets during the hot weather.

In Chechnya, almost the entire control system is personally supervised by Ramzan Kadyrov and his close subordinates. According to the estimates of the BBC Russian Service, in Chechnya, out of 158 top-ranking officials, 30% are relatives of Ramzan Kadyrov, 23% are his fellow villagers, and 12% are his friends. Political analysts believe the personnel policy of the Chechen leader is aimed at strengthening the position of his family.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 20, Khamzat Kadyrov, a nephew of the Chechen leader, became the head of the Kurchaloi District. On November 8, 2017, Khas-Magomed Kadyrov, a close relative of Ramzan Kadyrov, was appointed the chief of the Department for Grozny of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

Earlier, the political analysts have explained the rotation of personnel in Chechnya by the shortage of the Ramzan Kadyrov's proxies and problems with alternative sources of information.
