Four persons detained in case of riots in Ganja

Four residents of Azerbaijan are accused of plotting and organizing a terror act and riots in Ganja.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 10, in Ganja, 150-200 people gathered near the city administration building in connection with an assassination attempt on Elmar Veliev, the head of the city executive power. Activists demanded to investigate not only the actions of the attackers, but of Elmar Veliev himself. The police stopped the rally by using force. Two police officers were killed in clashes with the protesters.

The assassination attempt on the Mayor of Ganja was committed on July 3. The official was wounded, and his bodyguard was also hospitalized. Yunis Safarov, a 35-year-old native of Ganja, who shot at the Mayor, was detained. The law enforcement bodies called the assassination attack on Elmar Veliev a terror act.

Djeikhun Gurbanov, Vugar Allahverdiev, Ulvi Gasanov, and Alim Yusifov were detained on suspicion of plotting and organizing a terror act and riots in Ganja, the "contact.az" reports on July 17.

Djeikhun Gurbanov is accused of watching Ganja Mayor Elmar Veliev with the aim to prepare the terror act and provide information for Yunis Safarov.

Vugar Allahverdiev and Ulvi Gasanov are accused of active participation in the riots on July 10, and Alim Yusifov is accused of organizing transportation of residents of the Shamkir District for participation in the riots in Ganja.
