Residents of Chechnya celebrate Eid al-Fitr with prayers and Iftars

On the holiday of Eid al-Fitr celebrated today, residents of Chechnya arrange tables with food, voice best wishes to their relatives, and visit graves of deceased relatives. On the eve of the holiday, people from Chechnya complained about the uncertainty in the celebration date and the rise in prices for food.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this year, in Chechnya and Dagestan, the fasting of Ramadan began on May 17. The Muftiates of Chechnya and Dagestan did not share the opinion of the Russian Council of Muftis, which declared the beginning of Ramadan on May 16.

Residents of Chechnya learned the date for the celebration of Eid al-Fitr on June 14, when it was announced by the Muftiate of the Chechen Republic.

On the day of the holiday, there is a tradition to visit graves of deceased relatives, come to neighbours and relatives and voice best wishes on the completion of the month of fasting.

In the houses, women are cooking festive food, and children who come with congratulations traditionally get sweets.

"Women face a difficult night, since they are to cook food for festive tables. Meanwhile, the day of the holiday beginning was announced at the last moment," said Movsar, a resident of Grozny.

Residents of Grozny noted that there were long lines at markets and in stores on the eve of the Eid al-Fitr celebration. Prices for food began to rise since last week.

The uncertain date of the first day of Eid al-Fitr provoked serious concern among residents of the republic, especially among women.

During the Iftar, there should be dishes on a table corresponding to the welfare level of a person who arranged the table, stated Visam Bardvil, the chairman for the Union of Islamic Organizations.
