Nagorno-Karabakh marks "Night of Museums" by exhibitions on start of liberation movement

In Nagorno-Karabakh, fourteen museums organized new exhibitions and events dedicated to the "Night of Museums". Some museums arranged exhibitions in honour of the 30th anniversary of the Karabakh movement and heroes of wars, while others presented works created by masters of applied art.

Since 2000, museums of Nagorno-Karabakh annually participate in the international action "Night of Museums", the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Yeraz Danielyan, an official from the Ministry for Culture, Youth Affairs and Tourism.

In 2018, Nagorno-Karabakh marks the 30th anniversary of the beginning of the national liberation movement. According to participants of the action, it is necessary to achieve full international recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh and then join Armenia.

On May 18, in Stepanakert, the State Historical and Local Lore Museum of Nagorno-Karabakh presented an exhibition of 15 ancient Karabakh carpets, reports museum director Melanya Balayan. The oldest carpet in the collection dates from the 18th century.

Nagorno-Karabakh expects an influx of foreign tourists in connection with the "Night of Museums", emphasized Artak Grigoryan, the head of the programmes promoted by the Ministry for Culture, Youth Affairs and Tourism.

Foreign tourists are interested in the history of Nagorno-Karabakh, noted Melanya Balayan. According to her, in 2017, the museum was visited by more than 17,000 tourists.
