Chechen Parliament prepares bill on Putin's rule until 2030
On May 10, the Chechen Parliament intends to bring an offer to the Russian State Duma to change the Constitution so that Vladimir Putin could be re-elected in 2024 for a third consecutive term. Mikhail Emelyanov, the head of the State Duma's profile committee, has taken this initiative cautiously.
The initiative to extend Putin's rule for more than two terms was moved by the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, back in April.
"As long as the incumbent president is healthy, we shouldn't think about another head of state. Now Putin has no alternative. We should not even ask him! The people, the Federation Council, the State Duma, other state institutions should initiate and make such a decision. I'm sure everyone will support it in the end," the "Interfax" quoted Kadyrov as saying on April 13.
On Kadyrov's initiative, the Chechen Parliament has drafted a federal law that assumes amending the Russian Constitution. Changes are offered to the Article "On the Timing of Holding the Office of the President of the Russian Federation".
The nearest sitting, at which Chechen MPs will decide on bringing the draft law into the State Duma, will be held on May 10, the "Kommersant" has reported today.
