CTO in Derbent District becomes the first one within 1.5 years

Today, law enforcers have killed two suspected militants in the Derbent District. This counterterrorist operation (CTO) has become the fifth one held in Dagestan in 2018. Meanwhile, in Derbent and its area, the CTO legal regime was recently introduced in October 2016.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, in a forest belt between the villages of Chinar and Gedzhukh in the Derbent District, law enforcers came across a dugout of militants and shot dead two armed men in an armed clash.

The CTO legal regime was introduced in Derbent and the Derbent District on April 21. According to the law enforcement bodies, on that day, three suspected militants were killed in a shootout when law enforcers wanted to check their passports and six others were killed in a cordoned-off house after they had refused to lay down their arms.

Recently before that, the CTO legal regime was introduced in Derbent or the Derbent District in October 2016. Then two people were killed during the special operation. The National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) stated that the killed suspects were wanted in connection with creation of a bandit grouping, as well as illegal trafficking of drugs. On October 17, 2016, the CTO legal regime in Derbent was lifted.
