Seeking peace in Georgia
At the invitation of Conciliation Resources a meeting of Georgian and Abkhaz representatives took place in Vienna 30 July to 1 August 2005. Participants discussed the current state of the peace process and reflected on a series of issues that are of mutual concern. The two and a half day meeting was an off shoot of the "Schlaining" dialogue process that has been organised by Conciliation Resources and the Berghof Center over the past five years as a forum for informal dialogue between Georgian and Abkhaz politicians and officials. The participants welcomed the opportunity to meet in an informal context.
The Abkhaz participants were Sokrat Djindjolia, Leonid Lakerbaia, Stanislav Lakoba and Batal Tabagua. The Georgian participants were Giorgii Khaindrava, Gia Volskii and Paata Zakareishvili. Everyone took part in their individual capacity, not representing any organisation or institution.
The workshop was organised by Conciliation Resources (London) and the Austrian Study Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution (Stadschlaining). The meeting was facilitated by Clem McCartney, Jonathan Cohen, and Rachel Clogg.
The meeting was funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Kingdom Global Conflict Prevention Pool.
