SIZO warders refuse Magomed Khazbiev's advocate in visiting her client

On March 14, Khedy Ibrieva, an advocate of Ingush oppositionist Magomed Khazbiev, could not visit her client, kept in the SIZO-1 of Karabulak.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 12, Ingush oppositionist Magomed Khazbiev went on a hunger strike in the Karabulak SIZO (pre-trial prison) in protest against the persecution and conditions of detention.

Magomed Khazbiev, who arrived in Ingushetia from Chechnya, was arrested on January 11 on suspicion of illegal possession of firearms and insulting a law enforcer. On January 25, Khazbiev's advocates said that his state of health had deteriorated in the SIZO; and the activist himself complained about the "fascist" custody conditions.

Khedy Ibrieva told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that she came to the SIZO after lunch, but she was stopped in front of the checkpoint. "A warder on duty who stopped me said that a special department employee in charge for drawing up applications for visiting prisoners fell ill and was hospitalized," the advocate explained.

Attempts to get through to the SIZO administration did not succeed, and warders refused to drew up an application for a visit to the advocate's client.

Khedy Ibrieva drew attention to the fact that according to Article 53 of the Russian Code of Criminal Procedure, visits to defendants should be provided without any restrictions. The advocate appealed to the Prosecutor's Office of Ingushetia with a complaint about impossibility to visit her client.
