Relatives report torture of detained Makhachkala resident

Said Mamedov, a resident of Makhachkala, who was declared by law enforcers a member of the Makhachkala unit of the "Islamic Stat" (IS), a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, had to confess to possessing ammunition and explosives under torture, his mother Madina Mamedova has stated.

Early in the morning on March 5, several law enforcers came to Said Mamedov's house and took him away "as a witness," Ms Mamedova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, adding that only on the following day, his relatives learned that Said Mamedov was detained, and that the law enforcers had found two grenades and ammunition in his house.

According to her story, on March 8, a freedom restriction measure – one-month custody – was applied to her son. He is charged with two Criminal Code Articles: Nos. 222 (illegal storage of ammunition) and 222.1 (illegal circulation of explosive devices).

"I saw my son at the trial; he said that he had signed confessions. I asked why he had confessed to what he had never done, and he replied that he had done it under torture. He said that he was beaten up and tortured with electricity," said the woman.

Today, Madina Mamedova has applied to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".
