Grozny residents report unprecedented CEC members' activeness on the eve of election

Employees of the Central Election Commission (CEC) have held a large-scale dissemination of leaflets calling for participation in the Russia's presidential election on March 18, residents of Chechnya report. In its turn, the CEC asserts that the campaign is purely informative and aimed at increasing the interest in the election.

CEC employees walk around the flats and distribute leaflets, residents of Grozny have stated, noting that they had not seen such activeness during past elections.

The authorities of Chechnya are holding actions intended to increase the voter turnout. Thus, on March 3, they organized a motor rally with an appeal to come to the polls, and on March 5 – the "Interethnic physical exercise 180318". Local residents complained about compulsion to participate therein.

There is no need to go to vote, since the outcomes are predetermined, some residents of Chechnya told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

At the 2016 elections, Chechnya showed the highest voter turnout in Russia – 94.92%. The "Edinaya Rossia" (United Russia) Party won the most votes, while the head of the republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, received the unprecedented 98%.
