Prosecutor demands nine years in prison for Shamil Nurmagomedov

Today, the Moscow District Military Court has completed the debate in the case against Shamil Nurmagomedov. The defence requested to acquit him and stated that the accusation had been based only on assumptions, but not on any evidence of the Shamil Nurmagomedov's specific intent.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 22, the Moscow District Military Court started to consider the case against Shamil Nurmagomedov, a native of Makhachkala, accused of financing terrorism. Shamil Nurmagomedov refused to recognize as the financing of terrorism his assistance to his brother, who tried to get out of the territory controlled by the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia by court.

In his final speech, Shamil Nurmagomedov rejected the charge of financing terrorism. He regretted that he had transferred money to his brother, and asked the court to acquit him.

"During a year spent in prison I realized I made a mistake when I had transferred 200,000 roubles to my brother. I repent of that," Shamil Nurmagomedov stated.

According to the defendant, because of his legal illiteracy, he realized too late that it could be a crime.

In the course of the debate, the public prosecutor tried to point out to the guilt of Shamil Nurmagomedov and referred to his phrases in correspondence with the brother.

As a result of the debate, the public prosecutor requested the Court to sentence Shamil Nurmagomedov to 9 years of imprisonment in a common-security penal colony and a fine of 500,000 roubles.
