Grozny woman finds her daughter missing for more than 20 years in Dagestan

Khava Ibragimova, who was evacuated during the first Chechen War from Grozny, on December 25 returned to her mother, who had been looked for her all these years. The return of the disabled girl to her family from a boarding school in Dagestani Buynaksk became possible after a DNA examination.

"At the start of the First Chechen War, a five-year-old Khava Ibragimova was taken to Dagestan, together with a group of children. The girl didn't speak Russian and had no documents on her... Her parents had divorced... At the age of 18, Khava was placed at the psycho-neurological centre 'Miloserdie' (Charity) in Buynaksk; she already had a different surname," the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) Chechnya has stated.

The girl's mother, Rabat Ibragimova, managed to find her, but could not take her without documents confirming their relationship.

"She turned for help to republic's authorities; and after that a DNA examination, which confirmed their relationship, the court passed its judgement," the MIA has added.

Khava has found a large family in her homeland, a friend of her family in Grozny told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Now, she is at home, where she has a half-brother and four sisters," the woman said.
