Suspected terrorist detained on border with Georgia

On December 21, at the checkpoint "Verkhny Lars" in North Ossetia, border guards detained a foreigner suspected of involvement in terrorist activities.

The young man is a native of one of the South-Caucasian countries. For a long time, he lived in Russia, and several years ago he went abroad. The law enforcement bodies suggested he went to the zone of armed conflicts in the Middle East and now he was going to one of the North-Caucasian republics to meet his former friends and countrymen.

Besides, the law enforcement bodies have also found out that the young man is actively interested in politics and the study of the Islamic religion and his constant occupation was communication and propaganda through the Internet. The law enforcement bodies have already launched an investigation to verify the detainee's contacts regarding possible involvement of his acquaintances in any unlawful activities.

The border guards have reported the detention of the suspect to law enforcers in his homeland where the man will be sent in the near future. This was reported on December 21 by the portal "15th Region" with reference to the press service of the Russian FSB Border Guard Service Department for North Ossetia.

The detainee's citizenship has not been reported.
