Law enforcers raid vicinity of Salafi mosque in Makhachkala

Policemen examined the parishioners of the mosque in Omarov Street in Makhachkala, who gathered for their Friday prayers, eyewitnesses report. They detained two or three persons, who later were released, the Dagestan Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has stated.

Idris Yusupov, a journalist, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the check was conducted by about 30 law enforcers.

"They stopped, examined with the computer, and detained as usual, mostly those who arrived in cars," he said.

According to eyewitnesses, policemen were interested in people with the appearance typical of practicing Muslims.

On Friday, preventive measures were conducted in Makhachkala. The detainees were taken to the OVD (police division) and released after checking for unpaid fines and alimony arrears, the Dagestani MIA reports.
