Law enforcement agent killed in Dagestan
Magomedkhan Gitinov, chief of the inquest department at the Buinaksk City Division of Internal Affairs, was killed in Buinaksk at 8:30 am today. An unknown attacker fired a handgun at Gitinov at close range when the major was leaving home going to work, ITAR-TASS says. He died of wounds on the spot.
This killing continues a series of terrorist acts against and murder attempts on Dagestani law enforcement agents.
Killings of and attacks on law enforcement personnel occur regularly in Dagestan.
Dagestan's Minister of Nationalities Policy, Information and External Relations Zagir Arukhov was killed in an explosion in Makhachkala on 20 May this year. His bodyguard sustained serious wounds and died on the way to hospital, NEWSru.com says.
His predecessor, Magomedsalikh Gusayev, was also killed in 2003.
