NKR authorities report growth of foreign tourists

The number of foreign tourists who have visited the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) in 2017 went up by 40% against 2016, making over 20,000.

The increase was caused by the marketing programme, including in social networks, participation in exhibitions in different countries and holding festivals, said Artak Grigoryan, the head of tourism management programmes at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Tourism of the unrecognized republic.

According to his story, tourists from Armenia are not included; and the number of them also reaches several tens of thousands.

He has added that in 2018, the marketing programme of promoting the NKR on the Internet will continue, international exhibitions and festivals are planned, as well as an extreme tourism programme.

"Tourists from all over the world are studying our country with interest... They are surprised at our peaceful life, that we have and beautiful sights," Lusine Gasparyan, Director of Shushi City Museums, said.

According to her story, most tourists come from Russia, European countries and Asia.
