In Dagestan, earthquake damages two schools and kindergarten

In the morning on December 7, a magnitude 4.9 tremor was registered in the Khiv District of Dagestan.

After the earthquake, cracks were detected on the buildings of two schools and one kindergarten in the Khiv District. One of those schools was closed for security reasons, reported Beidulla Mirzoev, the head of the Khiv District.

"There are cracks in the buildings of two schools and one kindergarten in the Khiv District. One of those schools has stopped classes for security reasons, since 67 children go to the school. In other institutions, the classes are being conducted," reported Beidulla Mirzoev as quoted by the TASS.

In Dagestan, rural school buildings are often dilapidated, and local residents fear for the safety of their children who go to the schools. The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 5, a resident of the Khebatli village in the Tsuntin District of Dagestan held a picket in Makhachkala with the demand to build a new village school. The picketer pointed to the dilapidated building of the educational institution.
