Mikhail Saakashvili wanted in Ukraine

Mikhail Saakashvili is accused of crimes under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He faces up to five years of imprisonment. Mikhail Saakashvili himself refuses to come to the interrogation, and his defence calls the charges unproved.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 5, law enforcers who searched a Mikhail Saakashvili's apartment in Kiev detained him, despite the protests of his supporters. However, the supporters of the former Georgian President appeared to be able to take him away from the law enforcers. Mikhail Saakashvili called on people for a protest against Ukrainian President Poroshenko.

Andrei Lysenko, the press secretary of the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine, has confirmed that Mikhail Saakashvili was put on the wanted list.

Advocates of Mikhail Saakashvili have claimed they treat the case against their client as fabricated.

This morning, investigators waited for Mikhail Saakashvili to be interrogated. However, the politician said that he would not come to the interrogation. He has also added he is willing to meet the investigators in a tent camp near the Verkhovna Rada building.

The National Police of Ukraine have reported that they were looking for Mikhail Saakashvili in the tent camp, but his supporters organized provocations. As a result, no one was detained, but four policemen were injured during clashes in the tent camp, the press service for the Kiev Department of the National Police of Ukraine reported.
