Grozny stops selling alcoholic beverages

In Grozny, shops have limited sale of alcoholic beverages. Meanwhile, employees of major supermarkets found it difficult to answer whether a ban was introduced only for the Muslim month of Rabi-al-Awal when the birth of the Prophet Muhammad was celebrated or on continuing basis.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Grozny, top managers from the supermarket "Assorti" announced that alcoholic beverages would not be sold due to the coming of the Muslim month of Rabi-al-Awal and as a sign to support the anti-alcohol policy in the region.

Local residents said that the "Lenta", another supermarket in Grozny, also stopped selling alcoholic beverages.

"Yet last year, local entrepreneurs stopped selling alcoholic beverages. Meanwhile, network supermarkets such as 'Assorti' and 'Lenta' continued selling alcoholic drinks. And now, they also stopped selling them. It seems that starting from December 1, at our place, it is prohibited to sell alcoholic beverages at all," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Murad, a local resident.

An employee of the supermarket "Lenta" confirmed that the wine and vodka department had been closed in their store. However, the woman found it difficult to clarify whether the sale of alcoholic beverages had been stopped temporarily or permanently.
