Relatives report kidnapping of Grozny resident

On November 22, armed people took Zelimkhan Dikaev away from his home; he has not returned yet, his relatives told the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".

According to Zelimkhan's brother, at night armed people in camouflage broke into their house; they forbade him to wake up his parents until they took the detainee away, and reported that Zelimkhan, the elder brother would be taken to some police station in Grozny, the capital of Chechnya.

Relatives immediately turned about the kidnapping to the Prosecutor's Office and the Investigating Division; and on November 27, they applied to the Ombudsperson's office in Chechnya. Their applications were accepted, but, according to relatives, no search actions were undertaken, the website of the HRC "Memorial" reports.

According to calculations of the "Caucasian Knot", since the start of the year, relatives of at least 43 residents of Chechnya have reported their kidnapping. However, it is almost impossible to find and release a kidnapped person with the help of the Investigating Committee or human rights organizations, Ekaterina Sokiryanskaya, Director of the Centre for Conflict Analysis and Prevention, believes.
