Kadyrov's name appears in Montenegro putsch case

The indictment on the case of plotting a coup d'état in Montenegro mentions the name of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, the Russian "Izvestia" writes referring to Montenegrin oppositionists.

Milan Knežević and Andrija Mandić, leaders of the oppositional "Democratic Front", accused of plotting a putsch in Montenegro, handed a letter to the Embassy of the Russian Federation. According to prosecutors, Ramzan Kadyrov called on the leaders of the Muslim community of Montenegro to cooperate with the "Democratic Front".

According to investigators, Moscow may be involved in preparing the coup by commanding "from above." "This is a way to discredit "Democratic Front", which tried to establish economic and cultural ties with Chechnya," Mr Knežević has stated.

According to the "Izvestia", on July 29, a Montenegro court began considering the case on the preparation of a coup in October 2016. Two Russian citizens figure in the case – Eduard Shishmakov and Vladimir Popov, as well as three Montenegrins and eight Serbs.
