Two residents of Chechnya accused of attacking Pskov paratroopers 17 years ago

The case of Arthur Ushaev and Ruslan Namatov, accused of attacking servicemen in Chechnya under the command of Shamil Basaev and Khattab in 2000, has been sent to the court.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the battle took place on February 29-March 1, 2000, in the area of the village of Ulus-Kert in the Shatoi District. 84 out of the 90 servicemen were killed, and four others were wounded. 370 members of the armed underground were also killed.

According to investigators, Ushaev and Namatov participated in the militants' attack on paratroopers near Ulus-Kert, and delivered fire at them.

As noted by the website of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), nine participants of the battle at Ulus-Kert had been convicted earlier. The "Caucasian Knot" wrote about other sentences handed down to alleged participants of the attack. Thus, in February this year, a court in Chechnya sentenced Maxim Ponaryin, a resident of Stavropol, to life imprisonment; and in August this year, the North-Caucasian District Military Court sentenced Ayub Tuntuev, an ex-security officer of the Chechen president, to 24 years and 11 months of a high-security colony.
