ECtHR receives a complaint filed by father of shepherds killed in Dagestan

The Russian authorities have failed to explain to parents of Gasanguseinov brothers under what circumstances law enforcers killed their sons. This has been stated by a complaint received by the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). The complaint was filed to the ECtHR on behalf of the shepherds' father, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 24, 2016, brothers Nabi and Gasangusein Gasanguseinov from the village of Goor-Khindakh were killed in the Shamil District. Brothers' fellow villagers claimed the killed bothers were not involved in the armed underground. The parents of the Gasanguseinov brothers seek their rehabilitation.

According to the HRC "Memorial", the complaint to the ECtHR was prepared by Darya Bakhareva and Kirill Koroteev, lawyers from the HRC and the European Human Rights Advocacy Centre (EHRAC, London).

"The complaint is filed because of the killing of his unarmed sons 17-year-old Nabi and 19-year-old Gasangusein. In 2016, they were killed near a pasture where they were grazing cattle," the HRC reports in its release.

The lawyers believe that the Gasanguseinov brothers' right to life was violated.

The rights defenders have noted the authorities do not dispute the fact that the brothers had been killed by law enforcers. "However, they have failed to convincingly explain to the parents under what circumstances their sons were killed," reported the rights defenders. They have also noted that "the parents of the killed sons had no opportunity to prove their innocence."
