South Ossetia expresses its willingness to recognize Catalonia as an independent state

South Ossetia will consider the issue on recognition of the Catalonia's independence. This was announced by Dmitry Medoev, South-Ossetian Minister of Foreign Affairs, in connection with the resolution on independence from Spain adopted by the Parliament of Catalonia on October 27.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 23, Dmitry Medoev, South-Ossetian Minister of Foreign Affairs, opened a representative office of the South-Ossetian MFA in Barcelona and voiced political parallels between South Ossetia and Catalonia. In due time, the people of South Ossetia took similar "fateful political steps towards the formation of own statehood," said Dmitry Medoev while commenting on the referendum on independence held in Catalonia on October 1.

When recalling his recent visit to Barcelona, Dmitry Medoev has noted that South Ossetia is closely watching the events taking place in Catalonia. The South-Ossetian Minister believes "no one has the right to refuse the Catalans in their desire to gain their own state."

"The authorities of South Ossetia will consider the issue on recognition of the Catalonia's independence if the relevant appeal is received from Catalonia," the RIA "Novosti" quotes Dmitry Medoev as saying.
