Two Dagestani women arrested after their return from Syria

The Soviet District Court of Makhachkala has pronounced the decisions to take into custody Zagidat Abakarova, a 34-year-old mother of many children, and 25-year-old Muslimat Kurbanova after their voluntary return from the war zone in Syria. The Court's decisions have been pronounced despite the fact that each of the women has an infant. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by the women's relatives.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 21, fourteen children and seven women were brought to Chechnya from the war zone in Syria. In Grozny, they were met by their relatives. The MIA has announced the returned women will be charged with confession and that will allow them to avoid criminal liability under Article on participation in illegal armed formations (IAFs). The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) announced the returnees would be charged with confession and that fact would allow them to avoid criminal liability for participation in illegal armed formations (IAFs).

On October 24, the Soviet District Court of Makhachkala pronounced against Zagidat Abakarova and Muslimat Kurbanova the pre-trial restriction measure in the form of detention in custody for a period of two months, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed on October 25 by the mothers of the arrested women.

According to the women's relatives, investigators did not inform them about under which Article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation the women had been charged.

The women decided to voluntarily return to their homeland under the guarantees voiced by Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of the Chechen Republic, reported Petimat Abakarova, the mother of Zagidat Abakarova.

"The detained women have infants. They are crying for several nights already, but their mothers cannot even feed them. We do not know under which article our daughters are charged. Zagidat with her four children could not take part in any unlawful actions except for the fact that she had left for Syria at the order of her husband. Meanwhile, Chechen women were set free and sent home. Does Dagestan have other laws?" the mother of the detained woman said.
