NAC: members of "Shamil" grouping killed in Dagestan

In Dagestan, two militants were killed in the counterterrorist operation (CTO) area.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, at 0:10 a.m. Moscow time, the CTO legal regime has been introduced in the Shamil District of Dagestan.

"In Dagestan, two armed bandits were neutralized during the CTO," reported a source from the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) as quoted by the RIA "Novosti".

According to the NAC, the people killed in the outskirts of the Teletl village in the Shamil District were identified as members of the Shamil grouping, which committed several killings in 2015-2016, including the murders of the chief of the ROVD (District Interior Division), the teacher, and the head of the district administration. Besides, the members of the Shamil grouping also extorted money from entrepreneurs.

On April 28, 2016, the former chief of the ROVD for the Shamil District was shot and killed in the village of Golotl. According to a source from the law enforcement agencies, he was murdered because of his earlier official activities.

The NAC press service has also reported the details of the incident. "The criminals were offered to lay down their arms and surrender to the authorities. In response, they opened fire from automatic weapons. Both bandits were neutralized by return fire," states the report posted on the NAC's website.

As a result of the incident, no civilians or law enforcers suffered, the NAC reports.
