Ingush resident suspected of joining Syrian militants

A resident of Ingushetia has joined militants in Syria and continues to fight against government forces, investigators report.

The suspect joined the ranks of militants in Syria no later than in August 2015. A criminal case against a 32-year-old native of Ingushetia was instituted under article of "participation in activities of an organization, which is recognized as terrorist in accordance with the laws of the Russian Federation". Investigators found out a route through which the suspect came to Syria and interrogated his relatives and friends, reported the website of the Investigating Department for Ingushetia of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

According to the Ingush Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), since the beginning of the war in Syria until this January, about 200 residents of Ingushetia left for the country and joined the terrorist organization "Islamic State" banned in Russia. A quarter of them were killed, while ten of them returned to their homeland.
