Tbilisi University students demand to return dismissed lecturers

Today, students of the Ilia State University have gathered in front of the university building to protest against the decision to terminate contracts with some lecturers.

Participants of the protest action have succeeded in meeting the rector of the Ilia University, the "Rustavi 2" reports on its website.

According to the students, the university administration has groundlessly dismissed about 25 lecturers. In particular, such a decision has been motivated by the fact that they also teach students in other universities, the "Sputnik Georgia" reports.

The dismissed lecturers also disagree with the decision on their dismissals. "We demand a meeting with the Minister for Public Education, as well as a meeting with the Academic Council, for transparent consideration of all issues. We treat as unacceptable the arguments mentioned by them, since the lecturers' contracts do not restrict teaching in other universities," emphasized Guram Sheroziya, a lecturer of the Ilia University, as quoted by the "Sputnik Georgia".
