Court in Czech Republic bans Chechen native’s extradition to Russia

The Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic has ruled that Ruslan Mukushev, a native of Chechnya and a political refugee, was unreasonably arrested at the request of Russia.

On September 5, the Court concluded that in January, Czech policemen unreasonably detained the above native of Chechnya on the Czech-Austria border. As it turned out, back in 2004, Mukushev received political asylum in Austria, and Russia is seeking his extradition, the Prague Daily Monitor reports.

The Court has ruled that Mukushev should not be extradited, as his rights could be violated in Russia, and he had been granted asylum in one of the EU states – in Austria.
