Advocate reports deterioration of Igor Nagavkin's health in SIZO
The health state of rights defender Igor Nagavkin, who on August 8 declared indefinite hunger strike in the Butyrka SIZO (pre-trial prison), worsened. This was reported by his advocate.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 2, 2016, Igor Nagavkin was taken into custody on suspicion of theft. The rights defender pleads not guilty. On August 8, Igor Nagavkin declared indefinite hunger strike in the Butyrka SIZO.
Nagavkin demands a meeting with officials of the Prosecutor's Office and the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF). Igor Nagavkin has also stated that he is persecuted for his human rights activities, and treated the investigators’ actions as unjustified.
On August 29, advocate Farit Murtazin visited his client at the SIZO.
According to Farit Murtazin, although Igor Nagavkin continues his hunger strike, medical officers visit him not every day.
"Today (on August 29), he felt bad. He got dizziness, and his blood pressure went high. Medical officers came to him. However, they do not visit Igor Nagavkin every day. They claim shortage of personnel at the SIZO," the advocate told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
On August 25, Igor Nagavkin was visited by a prosecutor supervising places of detention. He visited a cell and talked to the rights defender, Farit Murtazin reported.
"However, since Igor Nagavkin has no special claims against the conditions of detention at the SIZO, the prosecutor in principle had nothing to do with the visit, except to register it. Meanwhile, according to the law, he should also react within a certain period to a prisoner's hunger strike. However, the prosecutor supervising the investigation has not yet visited Igor Nagavkin, although the rights defender is waiting for him," reported the advocate.
