For the year, investigators failed to prove links of shepherds killed in Dagestan with militants

On August 24, villagers of Goor-Khindakh will hold Muslim commemoration of Gasanguseinov brothers killed by law enforcers in Dagestan. During the past year, investigators failed to prove that the shepherds were militants, local residents and the lawyer of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" have noted.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that power agents claim that the dead brothers opened fire at them and had been involved in the armed underground. Their parents seek rehabilitation of their names.

According to Djambulat Gasanov, a member of the villagers’ initiative group, lawyers of the HRC "Memorial" got access to the investigation materials, which state that "the brothers did not open fire, but were shot dead at close range."

Murad Magomedov, a lawyer of the HRC “Memorial”, has also noted that the examination results completely refute the investigators’ version that "the brothers were first to open fire."

The defence intends to turn to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) with a complaint about the inaction of the investigating authorities.

Let us remind you that on 29, 2016, Ramazan Abdulatipov, the head of Dagestan, promised in his Instagram to clear out the details of the incident. Residents of the Shamil District doubted that a serious investigation would be conducted.
