Ingush elders report reconciliation of blood feudists

In the first half of 2017, village elders, acting jointly with the reconciliation commission of Ingushetia, managed to settle seven family conflicts based on the blood feud. This was announced by Mikail Aushev, the responsible secretary of the above commission that acts under the head of the republic.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the commission was set up in Ingushetia in 2009 and works within the Teips Council, which includes members of all the republic’s clans.

According to Mr Aushev, authoritative religious figures, Imams, elders and state officials are involved in the reconciliation process.

The head of the republic, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, has noted that for eight years the commission has done a great job. Its main tasks remain unchanged: spiritual and moral upbringing of the younger generation; and strengthening peace and harmony in the society, says the official website “Republic of Ingushetia”.

Over the past few years, Ingushetia revealed over 200 cases of blood feud; of them, about 130 have been settled. Besides, clergymen annually resolve several hundred domestic conflicts.

In 2015, Ruslan Meiriev, the manager of affairs under the Muftiate of the Spiritual Centre of Muslims of Ingushetia, said that after the decree on reconciliation, all the republic’s blood feudists were registered. In May 2015, about 250 such persons were registered.
