Mikhail Saakashvili deprived of Ukrainian citizenship

The provision of inaccurate information in order to obtain a Ukrainian passport was mentioned as the reason for depriving Mikhail Saakashvili of his Ukrainian citizenship.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2015, Mikhail Saakashvili was granted the citizenship of Ukraine and appointed the Governor of Odessa. In November 2016, he was dismissed from his position.

The decree on withdrawal of Ukrainian citizenship from the former leader of Georgia was signed by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, the agency "Interfax-Ukraine" reports with reference to a source.

In his questionnaire, Mikhail Saakashvili indicated that he was not under investigation in Ukraine or abroad, but it is known that Mikhail Saakashvili was arrested in absentia in Georgia, the "TV News Service" (TSN) reports with reference to a source.

In Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili was accused of excess of power, embezzlement of budget; disperse of the opposition actions in November 2007, pogrom of the "Imedi TV" Company, seizure of property from billionaire Badri Patarkatsishvili, involvement in the beating of MP Valery Gelashvili, and the murder of banker Sandro Girgvliani. On August 2, 2014, he was arrested in absentia by the Georgian court. Mikhail Saakashvili called his persecution of political nature.
